Kool Beginnings Curriculum – Kidz Lab
Our Kool Beginnings Curriculum (KBC) ‘Kidz Lab’ Block focuses on building children’s knowledge, skills, and attitudes through active exploration, play, and inquiry-based learning. It taps into their natural curiosity and drive to discover, test, and learn.
‘Kidz Lab’ encompasses the broader concepts of STEAM through engagement with science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematical concepts, integrating knowledge and processes related to the natural, creative and digital worlds, society, and people. By bridging these domains, ‘Kidz Lab’ empowers children to comprehend the interconnectedness of their surroundings and educators to embrace the interconnectedness of the KBC blocks.
With a strong emphasis on hands-on engagement, the ‘Kidz Lab’ block supports early problem-solving skills by facilitating activities that involve testing how things work, asking questions, experimenting, exploring cause and effect, combining objects in inventive ways, making changes, and using information to adapt and enhance processes and creations.
One of the most important aspects of ‘Kidz Lab’ is that children are not just taught topics, but that educators demonstrate how to ask questions, how to be innovative and how to create. In doing so, children develop the ability to approach any situation with an open mind and have a mindset that is creatively wired, resilient and curious. These examples can occur across multiple learning areas such as: literacy, music, arts, cooking, construction, and sensory exploration and are further enhanced through the provision of loose parts and open-ended materials.
